last friday the 13th, maki threw up several times and got diarrhea. it was so gross. think cottage cheese. blech! we had so many plans on saturday (baptism, orquiza holiday party and i was going to join mik at his crossfit party) but couldn't go to any of them (well, mik still went to the crossfit party by himself). a couple of days later at around 4am, i started vomiting. not the pretty kind. the heaving kind that looks and sounds like i am possessed. my vomit incidents were def worse than maki's but my diarrhea was not as bad. prob because i'm pregnant and prone to constipation as it is. i missed out on paul's parents' 40th anniversary surprise lunch. i was confined to the bed or bathroom. it was horrible! and i had food poisoning only a couple of weeks ago...
on a positive note, i accepted a job offer with my current company last week. they offered me what i asked for -- a permanent position with benefits working M-Th only. been wanting a 3-day weekend so i can spend more time with my family. i can't believe i finally got it esp with my line of work. also for them to make the offer right before maternity leave... i truly feel very lucky. it doesn't pay as much as full-time (but if i break it down by hourly, my rate is better) but more time with the family is priceless. it scares me a little thinking of being home with the 2 kids but i'm sure i'll have challenges and great moments. my company shuts down for the holidays and today is my first day off. i had so many things to do but ended up mainly washing all the baby's clothes and some gift wrapping. i still have a couple of loads to do. for my 1st day off, i'm exhausted. this is tiring than being at work!
another great news - maki got accepted to our top choice preschool! he starts the summer program on june 24th. it's full time M-F 8am-5pm. i knew he would get in because i really connected with mary, the director at fountain day school, during the play date. i gave her recommendations to her first trip to new york and she ended up sending me a postcard from there. we have our family assessment at st. james school on january 8th so we are canceling that. we already had to pay the non-refundable new student fee by dec 20th. i was a little torn between the two schools but we are going with our gut feeling and both mik and i LOVED fountain day school when we visited it on separate occassions. it has more of a family, nurturing feeling about it and the kids looked so happy to be there. plus lunch and snacks are catered by whole foods and there's an awesome swim program (they swim 3x per week in the summer!). st. james is a great school too but it just seems more academic and at his age, i would prefer him to learn play-based as much as possible. that's why i didn't choose montessori for him because when i toured several of them, the kids looked like little worker bees doing independent activities. it may work for some kids, but i think maki's personality would thrive more in a traditional play-based environment. thinking ahead to june makes me want to cry... my baby is all growns up. i look forward to our fridays starting in january.
